Zo maak je urinevlekken in je matras schoon na bedplassen - Dryly®

Mattress cleaning after nocturnal enuresis

It can happen faster than you think: Even though the crib is equipped with a mattress protector, a nighttime accident suddenly occurs in Mom's or Dad's bed. Nighttime bedwetting is more common than many people realize and is a temporary part of everyday life for many families.

The quicker you act, the better. Fresh urine stains are usually much easier to remove than dried-in stains. In this article, we show you practical tips on how to remove urine stains from your mattress and reduce unpleasant odors.

What do you need?

  • Cleaning cloth, paper towels
  • Baking soda
  • Spoon
  • White vinegar, dish soap, or other cleaning agent
  • Plant sprayer, atomizer
  • Vacuum cleaner

    1. Remove bedding

Remove the bedding from the mattress as quickly as possible. If it is also affected, it should be washed promptly to prevent stains and odors from setting in.

    2. Gently blot the urine

Blot the affected area as quickly as possible with a dry towel or paper towel to remove as much liquid as possible. Change the towel several times if necessary until the mattress feels only slightly damp.

Important: Do not rub! This will push the liquid deeper into the mattress.

    3. Apply cleaning agent

Once the excess liquid has been absorbed, a cleaning solution can help reduce odors and stains. Let the chosen solution sit for about 5 to 10 minutes.

    Enzyme-based cleaning agents

Enzyme-based products are particularly well-suited for eliminating urine odors. The enzymes they contain specifically break down odor-causing substances rather than just masking them. At the same time, these products are often gentler on materials and the environment.

    White vinegar with water

White vinegar helps neutralize odors and reduce stains. Dilute the vinegar 1:1 with warm water and apply the solution to the affected area with a spray bottle.

The mattress should be well moistened but not soaked.

    Mild detergent with water

Alternatively, you can mix a few drops of detergent or dish soap with warm water and apply the solution to the stain. If necessary, a little white vinegar can also be added.

    4. Apply baking soda

Sprinkle baking soda generously over the affected area. Make sure the entire stain is covered.

Baking soda helps absorb moisture, neutralize odors, and reduce bacterial growth. Ideally, let the powder sit overnight or for at least 8 hours.

Afterward, you can thoroughly remove the baking soda with a vacuum cleaner.

    5. Let the mattress dry

If the mattress is still damp, let it dry completely. A fan or a well-ventilated room can speed up this process.

    Prevention is easier than cleaning

A waterproof mattress protector reliably protects the mattress from moisture and saves a lot of effort when cleaning. Especially for children with nocturnal enuresis, a high-quality mattress protector can help keep the mattress clean and hygienic in the long term.
