When should you seek help?
Enuresis does not usually require medical treatment, but it does require attention. It is advisable to seek your doctor's advice in these cases:
- Your child is older than 6 and regularly wets the bed
- Sudden recurrence of bedwetting after a long period of being potty trained
- Your child also urinates uncontrollably during the day
- You notice anxiety or sadness regarding the situation
With or without a doctor: the most important thing is that you as a parent remain calm, positive, and supportive.
Frequently asked questions about enuresis
- Is enuresis a cause for concern? In most cases, enuresis is harmless and disappears on its own with the right support. If the problem persists for a long period or gets worse, it is advisable to seek help.
- Does a bedwetting alarm help all children with enuresis? A bedwetting alarm works very well for most children with nocturnal enuresis. Some children take a little longer, but perseverance pays off.
- Should I punish my child if they wet the bed again? No. Punishment is counterproductive. Children do not do this on purpose. Positive reinforcement, such as compliments and small rewards, works much better.
